HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - GRADES 9-12
VFW VOICE OF DEMOCRACY SCHOLARSHIP - Established in 1947, Voice od Democracy is an audio-essay competition for high school students expressing themselves on a patriotic theme recorded essay. Students from across the nation compete to share in $2.1 million monetary prizes, as well as incentive awards.
The competition begins at your local VFW Post level with students selected for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placements. All three level winners receive money and an incentive awards. The 1st place winner will move on to the VFW District level, with additional money awarded. 1st place District winner go further to State competition, with additional prizes being received. Win at 1st prize at State Department to be selected for an all-expense paid trip to the Nation's Capitol. At National, the Grand Prize winner receives a $35,000 grand prize scholarship to the college of their choice.

MIDDLE GRADE STUDENT - GRADES 6-8
PATRIOTS PEN - Each year nearly 68,000 Middle School students enter an essay competition to win mearlu $1 million in cash prizes from VFW State and National level. In additional to money won at the local VFW Post, then District level, and State level. From there first place winner State winner will get an additional minimum of $500 to compete in the National essay contest. The overall National 1st Place winner gets $5,000.

TEACHERS GRADES K-5, MIDDLE SCHOOL 6-8, HIGH SCHOOL 9-12
The VFW Teacher of the Year Contest consists of 3 categories; recognizing excellent patriotic teachers in K-5 grades, 6-8 grades and 9-12 high school students. Recognizing outstanding teachers who promote citizenship educationship effectively. National winner receives $1,000 for themselves, and their shcools, commemorative plaques and an all expense paid trip to the VFW National Convention. To be eligible, a teacher must be a certified/licensed teacher who teach at least a half of a school day in a classroom environment. Nominations can be suibmitted by fellow teachers, supervisors, or other interested individuals (not relatives).

One youth scholarship offered through the VFW AUXILIARY. The South Carolina charter of VFW Auxiliary is offering an annual scholarship of $1,000 for nursing students. It is the ALICE HUTTO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.
Alice Hutto served as SC VFW Department President from 1975 to 1989. She was later elected as National Auxiliary President during a 1989-1990 tenure. On June 30, 1991, a fund was established in President Hutto'a name and invested into an interest bearing savings account. The SC State Council of Administration votedto use this revenue to provide a $1,000 Scholarship to assist eligible nursing students to assist them with continuing their education in nursing. VFW UNMET NEEDS PROGRAM
Active duty military personnel, to include activated Reserves and National Guards, can face financial challenges at times. VFW offers financial grants for those experiencing monetary difficulties due to deployment or active military assignments. The VFW is there to provide assistance with up to $2,500 to ease the burden. This in NOT A LOAN, you will not be required to pay the money back! Seek our UNMET NEEDS PROGRAM at VFW Post 6734, or other VFW Posts for assistance and information.
VFW SPORTS CLIP HELP A HERO SCHOLARSHIP - Service members and veterans are eligible for educational financial assistance, up to $5,000. Contact VFW Post 6734 or other local VFW Posts to determine your eligibility.
Another VFW Program to assist with fulfilling your educational dream is the VFW STUDENT VETERAN SUPPORT GRANT providing financial assistance of $500 twice a year.
