ABOUT US

CAPTAIN CHARLES F. GANDY JR.

The name, Capt. Charles F. Gandy Jr., is permanantly, and proudly, embedded as that of the eternal iconic leader for VFW Post 6734. Capt. Gandy was a Postmortum Silver Star awarded hero of World War II. Admirably described as a fearless and sterling leader by those men he commanded. He gave his life in combat, leading these men in yet another of his heroic battle charges, as head of the platoon he commanded. While in Lucca, Italy, within the Vorno Valley, he fearlessly lunged ahead with a shout of "Let's go...Follow me!" Leading his machine gun platoon into high peril, without hesitation. His couragous efforts, through spearheading the platoon, was determined to be the steel battering ram which finally broke a previously unbreakable enemy stronghold of resistance, in what was a highly strategic region known as the enemy German Gothic Line. His legendary heroic efforts in that 3-day epic battle has been described as the sledgehammer which would later save numerous U.S. military and Allied forces lives. This event allowed American and Allied troops to finally, successfully, obtain and secure that previously unpenetrable territory. On March 31, 2011, the state of South Carolina continued with awards for Captain Gandy as the House of Representatives proudly presented The Captain Charles F. Gandy Jr. Resolution to VFW Post 6734. It was a pristine honor, and totally well deserved, in recognition of this iconic U.S. military hero.

AND...we know how to relax! Routine, all-aboard, Post meetings are conducted once a month. We have Sunday night socials at the Post, for and with our supporters, members and friends. It is a time to enjoy some good food, rhythmatic music, and to simply just socialize with one another. We also get in some travel as well...to South Carolina District, State, Regional, and National VFW Conferences. Sharing experiences, socializing and getting updates on policies and procedures. It is highly important for veterans to come together with those Comrades who understand a part of our lives which no one else quite does! Because of our shared involvements in horrific, at times deadly, combat. WE SUPPORT EACH OTHER... in ways no one else quite can!

The VFW Organization is a non-profit veterans organization comprised of eligible veterans of military service members, as well as active-duty and reserve military forces. Our roots trace back to 1898 and 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War and Phillipines Insurrection, returned home and founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service and personal sacrifices to democracy and the nation. Our voice has been instrumental and resulted in establishing the Veterans Administration (VA), and National Cemetary system, disability compensations for Vietnam Veterans and those experiencing long lasting effects from the Gulf Wars, Korea, WWI, WWII, and other conflicts. Today our membership stands at 1.5 million which gives us a very strong, undeniable and successful voice in Congressional hearings. We vow to continue with seeking rightful benefits and priviledges for military servicepersons, veterans, and their families. Come join us! Considering the sacrifice you have made for this nation's freedom, you deserve the right to have your voice heard also.
